Clyde’s: Dramaturgical Packet

This website served as an interactive and detailed dramaturgical packet for the cast and creatives on the production.

For this website, I researched the experience of life in and after prison. I also researched the systems and history that have caused mass incarceration and re-incarceration, issues that are widely discussed in the play.

As a person who cannot relate directly to the process of incarceration, I ultimately focused on sharing directly from the source. Therefore, the site features the stories, art, and experiences of many formerly or currently incarcerated people, teaching the cast and production team about the experience of incarceration by giving them access to the people who’ve lived it.

  • Clyde’s, by Lynn Nottage, was performed as a part of the FSU/Asolo 2023-24 season. I was thrilled to join the team as the production’s Dramaturg.

Directed by DeAnna Wright. running Feb 16 – March 9, 2024.

This educational packet was composed as a part of my Dramaturgy curriculum at Carnegie Mellon University. It was created for a hypothetical high-school-age audience: one who had just seen or read a production of Snow in Midsummer, perhaps for their literature or theatre class.

The packet aims to help students think critically about the theatre they are engaging with and invites them to relate the play to their modern world. It contains useful sections that summarize the play and give historical context.

Finally, the packet creates discussion questions and an activity for students to complete in class. The questions directly tie the Snow in Midsummer to students’ lived experiences, while the activity places them in the position of playwright, encouraging them to write and create in the style of the play.
